Exercise Creating Wellness Program

“Mental empowerment through social interaction.”

It has been advised by health experts that regular exercise for the elderly offers excellent benefits as well as prolonging lifespan. It is alarming that only one in four between 65 and 74 exercise regularly. It is important to stay fit and healthy,  especially as you get older.

Increasing ones fitness, strength, confidence, coordination and mood are just some of the positive aspects of exercise.

Maintaining regular activity can help prevent many common diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes. Exercise improves the immune function of seniors as systems are often compromised.

Apart from longevity here are some the other reasons why exercise is good.

  1. Social aspect- exercise can be a fun social event and maintaining those ties is very important as you age to feel a sense of purpose, stop loneliness and depression.

  1. Mental health-  reducing risk of dementia and Alzheimer by keeping you engaged in activity and interaction you are fine tuning your motor skills and that in turn benefits your cognitive function.

  2. Boost confidence and independence- training and exercise have been proven to increase muscle strength and bone density and balance, thereby reducing the risk of falls and developing osteoporosis

The national institute of ageing states “ exercise is good for people of any age and can ease symptoms of many chronic conditions. Contrary to popular beliefs, weakness and poor balance are actually linked to inactivity rather than age”.
